Sturgeon farm

The construction of UNIFISH LTD sturgeon farm began in spring 2006. Presently the total area of the water basins for various purposes exceeds 48 thousand sq.m.

Russian and Siberian sturgeon, white and stellate sturgeon are bred in our fish farm. In the experimental area we breed Japanese carp-koi for delicacy and decorative purposes.

It is a full-fledged farm – it includes an incubation department, two young fish breeding departments for growing fish of various weight, areas for growing commercial fish and replacement broodstock and an experimental area for elaborating and mastering the bioengineering technologies for commercial breeding of new perspective species of fish and the block for commercial fish trade.

The water is supplied to these areas from six artesian wells with a constant temperature of 18.1 degrees Celsius and the high quality of drinking water.

For fish breeding the French certified mixed fodder, “Le Gouessant” is used for sturgeon and carp fish, which is free of growth stimulators, products from warm-blooded animals and genetically modified ingredients.

The sterile water at the optimal temperature for breeding sturgeon, the quality mixed fodder and the observance of standards of bioengineering for breeding allow to avoid the application of medicine and to get commercial fish with excellent taste properties within 12-14 months.

Since 2008 our fish farm has sold young fish of various sturgeon and koi species with the weight of 10-100 grams by preliminary order. The capacity of the incubation and young fish breeding departments allow growing more than 350 thousand young sturgeons annually.

It is expected that in 2010 the production volume of commercial fish will reach 500-600 tons. The expansion of the production facilities and introduction of new technologies will enable to increase the annual production volume up to 1200-1500 tons in 2011-2012 years.

The commercial fish is sold live, with delivery by our own vehicles within the Republic.

A growth tendency has been observed in export since 2008 - mainly to Russia, Ukraine and Georgia.

In perspective, with the completion of construction of fish processing department, we plan to increase the export to European countries. Presently we are working towards the certification of our production in accordance with European standards.
